Japanese Washi Paper Info
Washi is the Japanese word used for handmade paper made from the inner fibres of three plants. Wa means Japanese, shi means paper
It is traditionally made from the Gampi tree, the Mitsumata shrub and the Kozo (Paper Mulberry). Other fibres can be included for added strength or decorative effects such as bamboo or hemp, and silver or gold foil.
Washi paper is extremely versatile and is used in many ways ranging from origami to kites to book binding. In earlier times it was used for lining Kimonos
